Cleaning Your Down Pillow
Many people enjoy the luxury offered by a down pillow but are less thrilled when it comes time to wash it. After all, with the delicate down feathers, many people are at a loss about how to wash these items properly. While the fallback answer is to dry-clean it, this can be equally frustrating, because it can get very expensive after multiple cleanings.
For that reason, don’t be afraid to throw your Pacific Coast down pillows in the washing machine. Just follow some of the following tips. For one, always use the gentle cycle, and make sure the detergent is gentle. Also, only use cold-water settings. When it comes to drying, air-drying is the best option. If that isn’t plausible, however, throw it in the dryer on its lowest heat possible. When dried all the way through, fluff with your hands and cover with a clean pillowcase.
A down pillow is a great compliment to your comforter or comforter set. Down is scarcer and more expensive than feathers, but the benefits far out weigh the cost. Feathers will add weight to a pillow but their sharp quills can pole through the outer fabric. A goose down pillow is much softer than duck down and does not have sharp quills.
Most people do not realize that down on the label can contain as much as 30% feathers! So make sure you read the details before selecting you pillows. A goose down pillow with a high fill power of 700 or more is especially comfortable and long lasting. Make sure you choose a pillow that has a high thread count of 800 or more to insure a long lifetime of the pillow and to hold the goose down in.
